What UnREAL is

Lifetime scripted drama, four seasons, 2015 to 2018. Season 4 released on Hulu in 2018. (From memory; verify at Phase 4 if any marketing copy references it.)
Created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, expanded from Shapiro's 2013 short film Sequin Raze. Shapiro was a Bachelor associate producer whose job was to get contestants to "open up, and to give them terrible advice, and to deprive them of sleep" (The New Yorker, 2016-06-20, https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/06/20/sarah-gertrude-shapiro-the-savagely-clever-feminist-behind-unreal).
Protagonist Rachel Goldberg, a field producer on Everlasting, a Bachelor clone with one suitor and roses. Her boss Quinn King runs the control room. Melodrama register: affairs, a suicide, a shooting, a murder cover-up across seasons.
Peabody Award for season 1 (2016). Critical consensus: season 1 strong, later seasons lost the thread.

Anyone who pitches or watches Manufactured Love will say "UnREAL" within ten seconds. The trailer has to make the difference visible without naming it.

Rules that keep the difference visible in 120 seconds

No contestant ever speaks to the documentary camera. Their words arrive only through Sunburn's own feed or a producer's retelling.
No producer is ever alone with their conscience on screen. The PA carries that beat, and it fails.
Every manipulation shown maps to a sourced real technique (glossary term in the shot list). No invented tricks.
The comedy is procedural: a scene label typed, a sticky note placed, a sentence spliced, a glass refilled. No one-liners that a drama writer would write for a villain.
The inner show is a streaming villa format, not a suitor-and-roses format.
